A Snowy Experience.

Despite being lower in the hemisphere England decided to be approximately 10 degrees colder than the Canadian Rockies, leaving us a bit shell shocked in all honesty.  I am a little frozen icicle, which isn’t so bad as I don’t mind the cold – I do mind the wet however.

This spell of chilliness has brought my favourite kind of weather.  Snow.  Which is what we found when we headed to Grizedale Forest to mountain bike.  The forest is usually ram-packed with outdoors mad mountain bikers, but for us the snow had done it’s trick (the fact it was Wednesday) and created a winter wonderland.  We saw 2 other people and a dog the whole time we were out there.  It felt like we had been transported to Narnia, where Mr Tumnus would pop out and ask us for tea any moment.

A slippery ride and a few snowball fights later we decided to call it a day.  Our bikes were not kitted out with fat enough tyres to take on the conditions of the day! In our defence, we didn’t think it would have snowed that low down!  The men at the bike shop were very helpful and said they’d rescue us if we had a puncture or were injured, but apparently they don’t rescue tired bikers.

How to chill an Australian

A bit chilly after our mornings exploits we popped to the Grizedales café, which was a bit of a disappointment.  I wouldn’t recommend it, there are plenty of lovely cafes in the next few villages over which would supply a bit more character and nicer food.  Although for us the fact you can wipe the seats was a blessing seeing as we were covered in mud!

Into the woods

And with that it was time to defrost our frozen toes by the warmth of the fire snuggled up in blankets watching movies.
